So as I said, I had quite a few games of X-Wing, all against same guy, a good mate Robbie.
Now tactically speaking we're about on a par, but I am a little rusty & he's just learnt a few things in a tournie.
I would say in the games we were about even in tactical mistakes (guessing wrong) & were about even on tactical genius (guessing right). So it all came down to the dice, each and every game. Boy I still can still feel the bruises, his dice were on fire, mine, well they must of been frozen, they thawed occasionally, to have some awesome moments, but not enough times.
The last game was shocking, I fired 2 sets of cluster missiles into an X-Wing, along with basic fire from another ship, a Tie Interceptor I believe, firing it's main weapons, I left the X-Wing on 1 health, how was it not blown up. He fired 1 proton torpedo & from the 2nd X-Wing something else, can't remember if it was a missile/torpedo, or basic fire into my bomber & killed it. Then with his last ship weakened one of my Tie Advanced to just about half health, all this on first turn, Ouch!!
I try really hard when losing to keep my chin up & enjoy the game, so that my opponent can too, but, I was getting annoyed and angry that the dice could have such a nasty run against me. Robbie apologised thinking I was directing my rants at him, after I explained it was dice I was getting angry at, I apologised to him, as, it's not good sportsmanship to carry on that way, after all, a hobby should & must be fun. Also they were tactical games & I learnt some things. Plus I got to meet up with a mate & play with my toys.
But I really hope my X-Wing dice punishment & drought end soon, as, I love Stewart my first born child, I would hate to sacrifice him to the dice God, but, needs must if it continues.
Dice Hate Me
One mans struggle to build up enthusiasm, to build and paint his models & any other folks stuff he takes on. Also included is rants about how Dice Hate Me, or if the Dice God's have been pleased & managed a win. Games I play are; 40k, Warmachine, Dystopian wars, Flames of War, X Wing & Bloodbowl. Games trying to avoid are; Dropzone Commander, Infinity & Dreadball

ROGUE GAMERS, OCTOBER'S PAINTING PLEDGE
So here we are, The first painting pledge, I am vowing to complete, the following;
1) Finish my Lost brotherhood for GW Rotherham
2) Choosing either IG vehicles or finish my Warmachine khador (it'll probably be khador). EDIT: it is Khador.

As you can see, 2 are complete, the Scout & the Vanguard (actually in photo his claws aren't painted but they are as I type. so 6 of the lost brotherhood to do. Obviously the bases too. The next to go are the 2x Death Company, you see here that they're built but not primed.
6th October, I've been sorting my khador, Sorcha is nearing completion after a busy day painting, will post pick Monday am. Also I have put Arc markers on my bases, as warmachine is tough going if you can't see or prove arcs, I been meaning to do for a while, but last game, made it clear it was very important tbh.
So, Monday I think more khador as on Tuesday the 8th I'll be in GW Rotherham and I think Liam may be a little anti about warmachine models being painted, lol.

As you can see Sorcha is finished and a Warjack is half done, tomorrow I'm at GW ROTHERHAM, so it's Lost Brotherhood o'clock. Fingers crossed for progress on my Blood Angels.
So Tuesday 8th Oct, apart from weapons and bases, the Death Company Marines are finished. Okay admission time, I've had few days away from my paint station. A few days were because an old Armed Forces buddy came to visit. Plus a few coz my back had a argument with me about how active I had been, while said mate was here, it's obviously fun catching up with old mates, but being out and about for few days etc, have taken its toll. Tomorrow is Tuesday 15th, n that means GW & rogue gamers (see x wing post.), but I have option of warmachine at the Outpost, hmmm, that may be tempting fate, but we will see.

Trying snow bases for the first time
So not really liking GW snow effect powder, I was asking the guys at our place of choice for all things gaming and painting The Outpost, about how to create a great snow effect. They recommended Baking Soda mixed with PVA glue.
So I tried it, I was unsure of mix ratio of powder to pva, but it appears to be add to your hearts content, lol.
It's easy to mix, Also its quick to make and apply, the longest part is waiting for it to dry.

The new generation of gamers and /or new gamers,
So from the 10th till the 20th of February & 27th July till 10th Aug, my (getting taller by the day) son & my 2 princesses (that are growing up to quickly) visited.
My son is dabbling with 40k, as back stabbing, untrustworthy Eldar. Also he is getting to grips with his painting. He is 16, my girls are 13 and 15, they just like painting figures, at the moment, maybe so they ain't left out, who knows.
The youngest paints each part and/or detail of model a different colour, so is yet to find her painting way, or get bored of it, lol. My eldest girl is trying to go semi realistic, she has some potential tbh, I might be able to train her up to do my stuff, unless she gets bored of her Dad's silly hobby. My son well he is the same, in the fact of trying to be neat and get realistic looking models, but he (due to eagerness to play) may be a "table top standard" painter, he may prove me wrong. I don't know if he is wanting to learn high end painting skills, I don't want to bore him yet, lol.
This is all got me thinking, about All aspects of our wonderful hobby of "toy plastic soldiers", what's right or wrong to teach the new generation, obviously beardiness is something to be avoided, but is cheesiness, good or bad, or is it the situation that makes it ok or bad.
I know I will teach them my mantra of "winning is all well and gd, but having fun is the key", that said if you are obviously in a tournie, the winning is kinda important, but not at the cost of fun, for you and more importantly your opponents. I feel a loss is a good thing, as you learn more about your gaming tactics & army.
Should there even be a Short list of what to teach/inform the next generation of? That's a doozy of a question, hmmm, I have hurt my brain.
Painting and the CBA Syndrome, or mehh, not in the zone frame of mind.
Up until recently It's been a while since I last painted. I have a bad back from a car accident, it requires meds to control pain, lots of meds, Since May I haven't been taking them due to the government, but I digress, that's a different post for different blog, lol. This has stopped me from painting. Well I now am able to afford/take meds, but what I call the gaming room, the missus calls it the dining room, (silly woman) is being decorated. So my painting station is out of order. As painters will know, you can get burnt out, lose fresh ideas or just get "CBA syndrome", but atm I am eager to get a brush in my hands, this is due to getting into, a good hobby environment, thanks to GW Rotherham, a very unique GW store indeed. Also a nice club small & friendly. But stuff has been stacking up and it's annoyed me. I feel a paint frenzy coming on. Is this just me or is it common to go through painting highs and lows.
